Every event is checked automatically before anyone else can see it. This is what keeps the listings worth reading.
Most are approved in under a minute. If something is unclear, it goes to a human reviewer, which takes longer but is usually the same day.
If it is turned down you are told why, and you can edit and resubmit. Editing an event that is already live sends it back through the same check, so it is briefly hidden again.
